The first of hopefully very many Xabi Alonso Derbies is going to take place the week of October 26, with Chelsea drawn against Liverpool, away, in the fourth round of this year’s League Cup. Obviously, Alonso’s a Liverpool legend and though this won’t be the first time he’s back at Anfield with another team, it will be the first time he’s there in charge of a modern rival. So that could add a bit of spice to the occasion.
Chelsea beat Leeds United last week to advance to the fourth round while Liverpool beat Spurs yesterday to get their name in the hat. (Dominik Szoboszlai’s goal to make it 3-1 was quite [spectacular](https://x.com/LFC/status/2100152061530706244).)
So this is going to be a tough assignment; though conceivably both teams will play a rotated side.
