Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing PSV Eindhoven midfielder Paul Wanner, as per German football expert Christian Falk.
After starting his youth career at SV Amtzell, the 20-year-old spent time with FV Ravensburg before joining the Bavarian club’s academy at the age of 12.
Having risen through their youth system, the youngster made his first team debut back in 2022. However, he struggled to break into the starting line-up; as a result, he went out on loan on a couple of occasions to play regularly and develop his career.
Ultimately, Wanner joined the Eredivisie giants permanently last year. He has enjoyed a successful time at Philips Stadion, winning a league title.
Having proven his worth in the Dutch top-flight, the former Bayern Munich midfielder has already secured his place in the Austrian national team’s starting line-up.
Now, on FC Bayern Insider website, Falk reports that after being impressed by Wanner’s recent development, Liverpool have expressed their interest in signing him.
However, with the player’s existing deal set to run until 2030, he is currently focused on developing his career under Peter Bosz and is determined to become the Eredivisie’s best midfielder.
Wanner to Liverpool
The 20-year-old, valued at around £19m by Transfermarkt, is a left-footed player and is comfortable in the creative midfield and box-to-box roles.
He, standing at 6ft 1in tall, is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines and is efficient in creating opportunities for the attackers.
Wanner is a talented player and possesses high potential. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Liverpool with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.
Since moving to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen, Florian Wirtz has been a regular starter in the creative midfield position. However, he has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League thus far.
Moreover, Dominik Szoboszlai can provide cover in this position if needed but Andoni Iraola has mainly used him in the deeper role this season. So, it appears the Anfield club have already started exploring options to strengthen the CAM position.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually make a concrete approach to secure Wanner’s services in January or next summer.
