Chelsea have been handed a huge away tie against Liverpool in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Xabi Alonso’s side will travel to Anfield after Wednesday night’s draw paired the two Premier League clubs together, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.
Chelsea reached the last 16 following their remarkable at Stamford Bridge, having also beaten Luton Town in the second round.
Liverpool, meanwhile, booked their place by beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Anfield.
The states that it will be the Blues’ first away game in this season’s competition.
Chelsea draw Liverpool away in Carabao Cup
The fourth-round tie is scheduled to take place during the week commencing October 26.
Chelsea’s published fixture calendar has Carabao Cup round four pencilled in for Wednesday, October 28, although the exact date and kick-off time for the Liverpool game have not yet been confirmed.
Liverpool have also confirmed that fixture and ticket details will be announced in due course.
The tie gives Chelsea a considerably tougher assignment after home victories against Luton and Leeds in their opening two rounds.
Alonso made extensive changes for both matches, but required several senior players from the bench as Chelsea recovered from two goals down against Leeds.

Xabi Alonso set for Liverpool return
The fixture carries an additional storyline because of Alonso’s long association with Liverpool.
The Spaniard spent five seasons at Anfield between 2004 and 2009, making 210 appearances and scoring 19 goals.
He also won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005, scoring during the famous comeback against AC Milan in Istanbul, before later leaving for Real Madrid.
Alonso will now return to Anfield as Chelsea head coach with his current side attempting to eliminate his former club.
It adds another layer to what already looks like one of the standout ties of the fourth round.
Chelsea know victory on Merseyside would take them into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals and move Alonso’s side another step closer to the club’s first League Cup triumph since 2015.
