Chelsea have waved goodbye to controversial owner Todd Boehly after the American decided to sell his stake in the club.
On Wednesday, Chelsea confirmed that there has been an “ownership transition”, with Clearlake Capital buying out Boehly and his partner Mark Walter. Clearlake now have full control of the Blues, but that should not have any ramifications for Xabi Alonso.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has shared on X that Alonso and the sporting structure at Chelsea have the full support of Clearlake. It is thought that Clearlake have paid £1bn to secure the stakes Boehly and Walter had.

Chelsea’s first game post-Boehly will be on Friday night as Alonso’s side take on Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. They will be desperate for a win after dropping points in both of their last two games.
Chelsea drew 2-2 with Hull City last Saturday after losing 2-1 to London rivals Arsenal. Morgan Rogers scored in both matches and will go down as one of the more successful signings that Chelsea made during the Boehly era if he keeps performing.
The Blues have had many flops since Clearlake and Boehly took over the club, with the latter signing quite a few of them when he was serving as interim sporting director in the summer of 2022.
During the summer transfer window of that year, Chelsea brought in the likes of Raheem Sterling, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kalidou Koulibaly, who all struggled at Stamford Bridge.
