Luton Town – Almost A Stunning Coup

Luton Town – Almost A Stunning Coup

But it did not quite happen.

When the recent summer transfer window was open, there was a suspicion that, when it came to bringing in youngsters, on loan, Jack Wilshere might approach his former club, Arsenal, to boost our loan cache.

But it never happened

Instead, successful approaches were made to Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, with the result that Emilio Lawrence, Jamie Donley ad Dan Gore, respectively, arrived at Kenilworth Road to further their careers.

However, it appears, according to various media sources, including – talksport – that Jack Wilshere did engage in talks, several times, with the North London club to bring one of their youngsters, on loan, to Luton Town Football Club.

Indeed, the youngster the gaffer was after was none other than Max Dowman.

Dowman, still just **16-**years-of-age, is a midfielder / winger who is a prestigious talent who has already made several appearances for the Gunners first team and, when scoring against Everton, became the youngest ever Premier League goal scorer.

I cannot help thinking though, that a move to bring Max Downing to Kenilworth Road was far too ambitious and that no matter how much Jack pleaded, it was always doomed to fail.

I mean, if you were Mikel Arteta, would you authorise the loan knowing Dowman would be playing in a tier of English football that is far too physical for a 16-year-old when he is already good enough to make his mark at Arsenal?

Also, he may have heard a whisper that Jack was toying with playing young Jack as a wing-back and quite possibly on the opposite side of the pitch he is accustomed to, round peg square hole syndrome.

One last thought though, if the boss was courting the possible acquisition of Max Dowman, could that be the reason why the capture of Emilio Lawrence took so long to announce?

Was it a case of one or the other?

Just a thought.
