Both Liverpool and Trent Alexander-Arnold have struggled since the right-back left the club in 2025, and one former Red has suggested another transfer could be on the cards soon

Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy feels Trent Alexander-Arnold’s quality still hasn’t been replaced at Anfield — and he’s suggested the club could be forced to make another move for a full-back soon.
Alexander-Arnold of course left his boyhood club last year, having let his contract run down before making the move to Real Madrid. Things haven’t quite gone to plan for him since joining the Spanish team though.
Injuries marred his first season at the Bernabeu, and he now finds himself out of favor under returning manager Jose Mourinho, who has regularly turned to summer signing Denzel Dumfries at right-back instead.
But while Alexander-Arnold’s move might not be working out, his former club is finding it just as hard to replace him.
Liverpool signed Jeremie Frimpong last summer for around $40 million, but the former Bayer Leverkusen star hasn’t yet convinced at Anfield. Meanwhile, Conor Bradley has suffered from a number of injury problems, with the 23-year-old not expected back until November after undergoing surgery on his knee earlier in the year.
It’s not just on the right where the Reds have had problems either. Milos Kerkez still looks to be finding his feet and has received some mixed reviews from pundits, while Liverpool has had to turn back to Kostas Tsimikas as his backup, despite the Greek international looking likely to move on just a year ago.

And Murphy has admitted to feeling worried about the situation at full-back for Liverpool, and feels it may have to look at new options soon.
"A real concern would be the full-back areas, where Frimpong and Kerkez are struggling," Murphy told Snabbare. "Going forward, especially for me, they don't have anywhere near the same quality as what Liverpool have been used to with Trent.

"Now, Conor Bradley is more of an orthodox right-back than Frimpong, of course, and a super talent, but he can't seem to stay fit. Frimpong primarily wasn't a right-back when he signed, but he's struggled to adapt to that position, and in a world now where football is very condensed in the middle of the pitch in most matches, the wide areas are crucial.
"Liverpool, in the games I've seen so far, have got themselves in a lot of good positions in wide areas and the quality coming in from the full-backs isn't good enough. Yeah, that is a concern moving forward and something I think they'll be looking at."

Andoni Iraola provided an update on Bradley’s recovery earlier this week, with the Northern Ireland international still some way off a return to action, having been out since January.
"I think he is not close to training with the team," Iraola confirmed in a press conference on Monday. "He is training alone, but he has started touching the ball.
"Definitely, we want him ready as soon as possible. Giovanni [Leoni] is a little bit ahead of him. Still it is going to take some time for Conor."
