Former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold stands to benefit from a substantial financial windfall through his investment in F1 team Alpine.
The Real Madrid full-back acquired a stake in the Enstone-based racing outfit in 2023 via Otro Capital — a consortium that includes Rory McIlroy and Anthony Joshua. The group can now look to profit from their Alpine F1 investment after a three-year lock-in arrangement concluded.
Former Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata and NFL stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes also form part of Otro Capital, which could be heading for significant returns. When Otro Capital secured a 24 percent stake in the Renault-owned Formula 1 team in 2023 for £173.2 million ($232 million), contractual stipulations prohibited the investors from selling within three years without prior approval.
City AM reports that this restriction has now expired, opening the door to a potential sale.
Otro Capital has held talks with multiple potential purchasers and, amid skyrocketing valuations of F1 teams, is aiming for a threefold return. Whether such a figure is achievable remains to be seen.
Mercedes pulled out of discussions in May, concluding that the £606.3 million ($812 million) valuation was inflated.

A consortium linked to former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner is also understood to be expressing interest.
Alexander-Arnold is a well-known Formula 1 enthusiast and was recently spotted in Madrid for the Spanish Grand Prix.
Following his decision to join Otro Capital in 2023, Alexander-Arnold commented: "I'm excited to be joining Otro Capital's group as an investor into Alpine F1 along with my brother Tyler.
"Having been to Formula 1 races as a fan, I love the high-pressure environment of the paddock and I've seen first-hand how incredibly impressive the Alpine team is.
"Our shared goal as an investment group is to help contribute to its continued success on the grid, at a time when F1 is facing incredible growth as a sport.
"As a footballer, I understand the importance of teamwork, innovation and determination in achieving goals."
Things aren't going as well for Alexander-Arnold on the pitch.
Since leaving Liverpool for Real Madrid just over a year ago, the right-back has struggled to nail down a spot in the Spanish team's starting XI due to a lack of form and injury setbacks. He's currently behind Denzel Dumfries in the pecking order.
