When Manchester United signed Andrey Santos from Chelsea during the summer, many of their supporters were quite pleased to see him join.
At the same time, some Chelsea fans were disappointed with the club’s decision to sell the 22-year-old. He finished last season very strongly, even scoring in a 2-1 win over London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Performances such as that convinced United to spend £50m on Santos, but after an underwhelming start to life at Old Trafford, it looks like some supporters are already open to getting rid of him. Santos was part of the United team who threw away a 2-0 lead against Brighton & Hove Albion in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

During and after the game, United fans had a lot to say about the Brazilian and his performance, and it was not good. “Andrey Santos. Fifty million down the drain, for real,” one supporter said.
Another United fan posted on social media: “Andrey Santos, Mazraoui, Darlow, Rashford… very useless!” Someone has even gone as far as to say that Santos could go down as the club’s worst-ever signing! “On track to be the worst signing in the club’s history.”
Others have been equally brutal, already labelling the Brazil international a flop and urging the club to get rid of him. One United supporter posted: “Andrey Santos btw, what a horrendous waste of money.” Another said: “Andrey Santos btw just sell him asap.”
It is still early days for Santos at Old Trafford. A lot of that seems pretty harsh, especially considering that he is a young player who could still come good.
In truth, no one at United is thriving right now after a disappointing start to the season. It is a shame, as Santos was appreciated by many Chelsea fans and would have been getting minutes had he remained at Stamford Bridge.
Moises Caicedo has not been fit, while Chelsea never replaced Enzo Fernandez. Ultimately, a little bit of patience can pay off sometimes.
This is not the first time that United fans have not been happy with the former Chelsea man. United supporters also criticised Santos after his debut in the shock defeat to Hull City.
