Barcelona Monitoring Newcastle United “Target” Hegland
Scouts from Newcastle United have been to Sweden to watch Djurgårdens IF midfielder Bo Hegland – but they are not the only ones monitoring him.
According to Swedish and Norwegian media, Newcastle’s scouts watched him in a game against Mjällby AIF earlier this month.
Now, Sport Witness are reporting that scouts from Barcelona have been to watch the in-demand 22-year-old.
Hegland’s impressive performances for Djurgårdens have been attracting attention from clubs across Europe.
Hegland: “It’s Great That People Are Watching”
Hegland joined his current side from Moss FK in his native Norway in July 2025.
He has lit up the Allvanskan this season, scoring eight goals and registering 15 assists, equalling the Swedish league record for assists in a single season.
He grabbed two assists in the 4-0 win over Mjällby, in front of the Newcastle scouts.
His displays have also caught Barcelona’s attention. Their scouts were reportedly at Djurgårdens’ game against Gais, which Djurgårdens won 2-0. Hegland put in another impressive performance, getting a goal and an assist.
His contract at the Swedish side runs until December 2029, and he is valued at €2.5m (£2.1m) on Transfermarkt.
For his part, Hegland says that he is happy to stay at Djurgårdens, despite other clubs’ interest.
According to Swedish outlet Expressen (via Sports Witness), Hegland feels “comfortable” at his current club, but thinks Newcastle’s interest is “great”.
“The simple answer is that I feel very comfortable at Djurgårdens IF,” he said.
“Maybe it would have been a different comment if I hadn’t felt so good here. We play football that suits me, I enjoy myself on and off the pitch. Its an easy choice.”
Speaking about a potential move to St James’ Park, he said:
“Honestly, I haven’t thought too much about that. I’ve just been 100% focused on playing at Djurgårdens IF, and that’s what I’m doing.
“Of course, its great that people are watching, but my focus in on developing in the Allvenskan and becoming an even better player.”
