Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov knows something about having a good first touch.
During his time in the Premier League, he could control and manipulate the ball with great ease. Therefore, Berbatov praising one Chelsea player for his first touch is extremely high praise.
The Blues have some very technical players who are really good on the ball, including Joao Pedro, Morgan Rogers and Estevao Willian. However, Berbatov has gone for one of their teammates instead.
Dimitar Berbatov claims Cole Palmer has the best first touch in the Premier League
Berbatov was recently asked who has the best first touch in the Premier League in a post shared by the division’s official Instagram page. In response, he replied: “Cole Palmer, probably. He doesn’t look bothered, but I know that he is!”
That is not too much of a surprise, as like Berbatov, he can also control the ball with practically no effort. Palmer had some issues last season as he struggled with a groin injury, but he looks back to his best again.
The attacking midfielder has already scored four goals in all competitions this term. Two have come in the Premier League, while the other two came in the Carabao Cup. He has also managed to register two assists, making it six goal contributions in as many games.
Berbatov is not the only person to wax lyrical about Palmer recently. Joao Pedro has also praised Palmer, hailing him as a “special player”.
With Pedro a doubt for Chelsea’s trip to Brentford on Friday, Xabi Alonso will be looking for Palmer to show everyone just how special he is, especially with the Blues’ defence being very unreliable right now.
