Slegers ‘understands’ Olid’s early struggles at Man United

**Renee Slegers** showed sympathy for her counterpart at **Manchester United**, **Eva Olid**.

**Marc Skinner** set sail from the _Red Devils_ after five years in the dugout, and Olid was asked to take over at the start of August— about a month before the first matchday of the **Women’s Super League**.

A 5-0 defeat to **Chelsea** came as a shock to the system for a side that have been competitive at the top of the table. But Slegers shared an insider perspective to explain why she understands this situation.

_“If I look at the pre-season that we've had, we've had a lot of change in the squad. But how long it takes to make everyone aware of the game model, and how you connect with your teammates and how you really deeply understand each other almost without looking, that takes time._

_“I understand the challenge that \[_**_Eva Olid_**_\] has. As a coach, it's a decision to make. Are you going to go and change things straight away or are you going to have another approach where you progressively, over time, look to change things? That's probably the balance for her. I don't know what her philosophy is. I can imagine it's a challenge. Let's see what they do on Saturday against us._

_“Of course, I can imagine they're not happy with the start of their season. They're going to come to the Emirates. Let's see what their plan is, how they're going to attack this game._

_“But I also understand the passion of the game and the passion of the supporters. So, with that mixture in mind, I do understand that fans want the absolute best for their team. But I think if I look at that situation, the coach has had so little time with the team. So, I understand, of course, from a fan perspective, disappointment of results, but I think there's been so little time for them together.”_
