Comcast and the Philadelphia 76ers are bringing new technology and workforce resources to North Philadelphia through a partnership with North10 Philadelphia.
North10 is a community nonprofit based at the Lenfest Center (3890 N. 10th St.) that serves the Hunting Park and East Tioga neighborhoods through programs focused on education, employment and community development.
The organizations held a ribbon-cutting Thursday at the Lenfest Center to unveil improvements to its workforce development classroom and community room.
The event also included a youth basketball clinic for local students hosted by Comcast employee Team UP volunteers, with Franklin, the Sixers’ mascot, and Squad 76 taking part. Students also received school supplies and sports equipment.
The upgraded spaces give residents access to free Xfinity WiFi, computers and other technology they can use for digital learning, job searches and career development. Comcast and the Sixers have provided more than $150,000 in upgrades and support and announced an additional $20,000 grant to North10 during Thursday’s event.
“Through our partnership with Comcast, we are investing in the next generation by helping youth and their families access educational resources, career development opportunities, and support systems at places like North10, Philadelphia,” said Mike Goings, Philadelphia 76ers vice president of social responsibility and fan development.
