A video of the Miami Heat’s superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo recently went viral, showing an eye-opening incident with a fan at what appears to be a Greek restaurant.
The viral clip begins with a young man telling the Miami Heat superstar that he and his friends were taking up extra space and asking if they could be moved closer to make room for his table.
“You guys are taking up more of the space,” the young man said to Giannis Antetokounmpo and his friends.
“Who is this guy?” murmured Antetokounmpo to the people who accompanied him.
“So the owner, David Grutman,” the man mentioned while tapping Antetokounmpo’s shoulder. But before he could finish, the Heat star interrupted him sternly.
“First of all, first of all, don’t touch me. Hey, security!” Antetokounmpo yelled as though he was going to get the young man kicked out of the restaurant altogether.
“No, no. I’m not trying to…. Can we just move that table or no?” the man asked politely.
“You can get another table; there are so many other tables. Get another table,” Antetokounmpo responded.
“Okay, I’ll just get another table,” the man said.
Someone at the table seemed to notice the young man’s accent and asked if he was Greek too. As soon as Giannis Antetokounmpo learned the young man was from the same country as him, all hostility toward him vanished.
Giannis Antetokounmpo invited the young man to sit with them and have a drink of ‘Tsipouro’, a Greek distilled Brandy, at the table.
“Your own table? Sit down, just sit down. Bring a shot of Tsipouro for the kid,” Antetokounmpo said in Greek.

I looked up the owner, David Grutman, a Miami-based entrepreneur who runs multiple restaurants and clubs across the city. Among the six to eight establishments he runs, it seems this incident happened at Strawberry Moon, his only Greek restaurant in Miami.
It is still unknown whether the incident was staged for the camera or happened in reality and was caught on camera. But fans on social media were certainly surprised to see such behavior from Antetokounmpo for the first time, and later speculated whether the incident was completely fake.
I also noticed someone on the left side of the screen was already recording the incident in the first five seconds of the video before anything controversial happened. The person knew something worth recording was going to happen, which raises further questions about whether the video was staged.
If this incident did happen, then Giannis Antetokounmpo’s change in demeanor as soon as he learned about the common connection is a bit surprising. But it is unclear if the Miami Heat star was, in fact, unhappy with the initial intrusion or if this was all just a prank for the camera and Antetokounmpo’s fans.
