Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has been a key cog in the David Moyes machine this season, and if we’re honest, any time he’s fit and available.
There are two key words there: fit and available. One of the very few issues that Branthwaite has is the fact that he has struggled with injuries in recent years. Are we now over that? Touch wood.
If we are, Everton are in a fantastic position. Having a player of Branthwaite’s ability able to play 35+ Premier League games will be crucial, especially if we want to have success with a small squad.
Branthwaite has been heavily linked with a move away from Everton in the past, but the silver lining of his recent injury troubles have been that interest has quietened, at least for now.
There’s no doubt every club in world football will be aware of Branthwaite’s abilities, and they’ll be keeping a close eye this season.

Interest in Branthwaite
According to reports in the Daily Mail, Manchester United have made contact with the representatives of Branthwaite once again.
There are suggestions that United could look to offer a player as part of the deal, but either way, this is unlikely to be the end of the interest in him if he continues to stay fit.
Branthwaite has attracted interest from United for a long time now, submitting multiple offers to try to tempt Everton into making a sale over the last few years. The Toffees have stood firm on their valuation, before Branthwaite then signed a new contract.
Everton’s potential valuation
Back in July 2025, Everton tied Branthwaite down to a new five-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2030. As a result, the Toffees are under no pressure to sell, but as we saw with Iliman Ndiaye, the ownership aren’t afraid to green-light a decision like that.
If we look at some of the most expensive centre-backs of all time, Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, and Wesley Fofana are among those in the top five. It’s an easy ploy for Everton to point to similar figures, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them demand in the region of £80m.
Everton have little reason to demand less than this. For many clubs around Europe, he’s worth that kind of fee for multiple reasons.

Not only is Branthwaite one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, he’s only recently turned 24. There’s every chance that he’s yet to reach his full potential, especially due to his injuries, so it’s scary to think where he could be.
He has all the traits that clubs want in a centre-back. Need to camp back in your box and defend a lead? He’ll win his duels and pull out important blocks. Want to build from the back? He’s comfortable in possession. Need a left-sided defender to offer better balance? He’s your man. Want a player to progress the ball from deep, breaking lines through passing or carrying? Tick. Need a bit more pace at the back? He has that in abundance.
This isn’t a ploy to flog Branthwaite, but instead to show why Everton must value him highly.
How do Everton keep him?
Branthwaite is phenomenal; there’s little debate to be had. He’s Everton’s biggest asset in terms of valuation, and he’s one of a few players clubs will be keeping a close eye on.
Interest in him is going to rapidly grow this season if he stays fit. His performances aren’t up for much debate anymore. If he stays fit, he’s going to attract interest.
Hopefully, Everton are then tasked with trying to keep him rather than seeing him as a high-value asset that can be sold. Of course, if the right offer arrives, you should always sell players, but there’s no reason to allow a club to secure themselves a bargain.
Keeping hold of Branthwaite might not be easy. It’s not easy to keep any player when bigger clubs come knocking. Branthwaite isn’t an Evertonian at heart, he’s going to find other clubs attractive, it’s that simple.
But, that doesn’t mean Everton can’t keep him. We simply have to match his ambitions. That might not necessarily mean qualifying for the Champions League this season, but showing that we’re progressing and heading that way.
Branthwaite might want to see who’s going to be in charge after Moyes. Will they allow him to showcase his true ability? Will they help take Everton to the next level? Can they help Everton qualify for Europe.
Branthwaite is a talent that deserves to be playing Champions League football. If we can’t show that we’re on our way to that, we’re going to find it incredibly difficult to keep hold of him.
