Liverpool's links with Bournemouth star Alex Scott have persisted over recent months, and while a move never followed this summer, recent displays may have simply underlined why the Reds could push for a deal in the transfer windows ahead.

‌

Scott, 23, has impressed in the Premier League since joining the Cherries from Bristol City, with a process that saw him eased into becoming a key player. Plenty of that progress was made under Andoni Iraola, with the midfielder making 89 appearances under the head coach, scoring six goals and assisting five in that time.

‌

Considering the tactical principles that the Spaniard wants to instill at every club, Scott's ability to carry out tactical instructions perfectly in the system made him a trusted option, who could be an ideal option for Liverpool.

The Reds have some concerns over the midfield ranks, with a mixture of skillsets that largely focus on the ability to drive forward and attack, which can leave the team exposed at times.

Recent links with Scott come as little surprise, then, with his versatility offering an opportunity to play in a deeper role or a more advanced role if required, while it would take little adaptation for him to understand the tactical ideas of Iraola if he were to join.

There may be some concerns, largely over the transition to playing for such a huge club and in big matches, but the midfielder has shown signs that he is able to take that responsibility on.

After helping guide the team to the Europa League for this season, Scott started in the European opener against Real Sociedad, where he stepped up and controlled the game, even landing an assist for Rayan in a 2-1 victory for the Cherries.

The Spanish media gave an honest review of the midfielder afterward, with Marca giving the star a 7.6 rating for his display, while AS was even more complimentary of his performance.

An extract from the match report reads: "With the Cherries completely dominating under Scott's guidance and Tavernier's tireless runs down the left flank."

It's the sort of review that underlines exactly why Scott would be a perfect fit for Iraola once again, now proving on the European stage that he can perform at the highest level.

Before the Reds can even consider signing the England international in the coming transfer windows, however, the team will have to deal with his quality and intensity in the Premier League.

Liverpool takes on Bournemouth next in the division, setting up an emotional return for the head coach, and an up-close look at some potential transfer targets.

It remains to be seen how Iraola will do on his return to the south coast, with plenty of familiar faces on either side set to clash in a huge match.
