The Cleveland Cavaliers will have a new general manager for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the Cavaliers are promoting executive Brandon Weems to General Manager under President Koby Altman.
Weems has been with the Cavaliers organization for the past decade, rising through scouting and personnel roles before becoming assistant GM in 2022 and now taking over as GM.
Weems' close ties with LeBron James
This summer, Weems was also mentioned as a key factor in potentially bringing LeBron James back to Cleveland for his final NBA stint, as the two have been friends since their school days.
“Big, big, big X-Factor, let me talk to you about Brandon Weems. Brandon Weems is basically LeBron’s brother… that is a big feather in the cap,” Rich Paul spoke about Weems this offseason as a potential X-Factor in LeBron returning to Cleveland this summer.
However, LeBron eventually went on to sign a two-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he's expected to finish his illustrious career.
