Enzo Maresca thinks that Jeremy Doku can 'probably' be available for the home game with Sunderland on Sunday. The Belgian winger has not played a minute for Manchester City this season after suffering a calf injury in the Community Shield.
The injury was downplayed as not serious when it occurred, with Maresca putting a timescale of two to three weeks on it. When asked about the issue last week in Porto, the City boss said that there had not been any setbacks and this week said that he was 'close' to a return.
Doku was not involved in the Carabao Cup win over Norwich, but Maresca afterwards suggested that the player could feature on Sunday at the Etihad. "Probably he can be available for the Sunderland game," he said.
If he is not, the next City game is not until October 11 when the Blues head to Anfield after a three-week international break. That would be eight weeks from the date that Doku first suffered his injury.
Mark van Bommel picked his Belgium squad for the upcoming international break on Friday and Doku has not been included.
Doku is currently City's only injury worry, with Nico O'Reilly playing against Norwich in what was his first start since pulling out of the warm-up before the Coventry match with a back injury. Maresca is looking for the Blues to win their fifth straight Premier League game but warned that Sunderland will be their biggest test yet.
