David Moyes is pleased with Everton’s unbeaten start to the season but admits he would have liked his side to turn more of their draws into victories.
The Blues have taken six points from their opening four Premier League matches, drawing three, and remain unbeaten in all competitions ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Ipswich at the Hill Dickinson.
Everton followed last weekend’s 0-0 draw at Tottenham with a 1-0 Carabao Cup victory over Wolves on Wednesday.
Moyes wary of Ipswich
“Pleased, but would have liked to have turned draws into wins,” said Moyes.
“Can’t take any team for granted. Overall they have started the season pretty well.”
Ipswich have six points from their opening four Premier League matches under Gary O’Neil, with two wins and two defeats.
Moyes also offered encouragement to Charly Alcaraz after the Argentine came off the bench to score Everton’s winner against Wolves.
“He works hard, trains really well,” said Moyes. “He always has a goal in him.”
There was also a clear message for Jack Grealish, who returned from injury against Manchester United earlier this month before coming off the bench at Tottenham. Moyes has already spoken about wanting the 31-year-old to become a senior figure for Everton’s younger wide players.
“I want him to be at the level of the start of last season,” said Moyes. “I need assists and goals from him.”
Moyes believes there is still improvement to come from Everton generally, saying the club are “keeping the group tight and compact” and that “lots of things they are doing [are] much better”.
He also spoke about the culture he believes has been passed down through generations at Everton.
“I believe there is a type of culture at Everton that has been handed down by people like Howard Kendall and Peter Reid – there is something in it.
“Everton do their utmost to do what they can in the community. Everton in the Community is great.”
For now, the immediate job is Ipswich and the opportunity to turn one of those draws Moyes mentioned into another win.
