Liverpool legend Sadio Mane has taken on a peculiar new career by setting up a mango business in his home nation of Senegal. The 34-year-old joined the Reds from Southampton in 2016 for £34million.

‌

He became a crucial component of a deadly attacking trio, alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, which was deployed by ex-manager Jurgen Klopp to great success. He left for Bayern Munich in 2022 for £35m and now plays for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

‌

Mane is said to have invested a whopping £15m in a project called SM10 Agro. The venture will primarily benefit his hometown of Bambali, a village 250 miles from the country’s capital, Dakar.

‌

The Senegal international's business is set to create 1,000 jobs. He will ensure mango orchards, processing plants and an agricultural college are built as part of his plans.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of the laying of the foundation stone on Saturday, September 19, Mane said: “The Sedhiou region loses 30 to 40 per cent of the mangoes it grows, because of failures to store and process them properly. I want the wealth of our soil to remain here with us in Senegal. This initiative will employ 1,000 people from the outset.

“Processing plants will be set up at Bambali, and one will specialise in making mango butter. There will also be a 500-hectare mango plantation, and an agricultural college will be established.

“I want the young people and women of my region to have real opportunities for education. Transport and delivery services for SM10 Agro will indirectly create extra jobs as well.”

SM10 Agro deputy director Aminata Tope added: “We will plant 78,000 mango trees, with the first harvest expected in three years. The college will also have a centre for research and development, and the factory will be able to produce 10,500 tons in output per year.”

Mane's philanthropy in his home country is the stuff of legend. When Covid-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, the winger donated £41,000 to the Senegalese National Committee fighting the virus. He also built a £455,000 public hospital, which includes a maternity care unit.

The ex-Red Bull Salzburg star donated £250,000 for a free public secondary school and provided laptops. He has also funded a petrol station and a post office in Bambali.

Mane won six trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League, in his time at Liverpool. After scoring 120 goals in 269 games at Anfield, he left for a stint in the Bundesliga, which didn't go quite to plan.

Ater failing to make an impact in Germany, he signed on with Al-Nassr a year later, where he still plays today. Opening up on his reason for leaving the Reds, he said in November 2025: “Liverpool was like home. It was my comfort zone. Let's try to try something (else) because I have almost won everything here.

“So my challenge is not because… of course some things can happen or blah blah, but for me that was not really important.

“The motivation for me to go somewhere, okay to see… to leave my comfort zone and to do something else in the other part. So that was my reason why I say, ‘Okay let's try. Why not?’”
