Jordan Henderson has been handed his Chelsea debut after Xabi Alonso named his starting XI for Friday night’s Premier League clash with Brentford.
The summer signing starts in midfield against his former club at the Gtech Community Stadium, having recovered from the wrist injury which delayed the start of his Chelsea career.
Danny Welbeck leads the attack in the absence of João Pedro from the starting XI, while Levi Colwill captains the side.
Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers retain their places behind Welbeck as Chelsea look to return to winning ways following last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Hull City.

Jordan Henderson starts for Chelsea against Brentford
Henderson’s inclusion is the standout selection call.
The experienced midfielder joined Chelsea during the summer after leaving Brentford but has been unable to feature competitively because of injury.
Xabi Alonso had opened the door to Henderson making his Chelsea debut against Brentford during his pre-match press conference.
He has now gone one step further by putting the 36-year-old straight into the starting XI.
Henderson partners Valentin Barco in central midfield, with Pedro Neto and Pep Chavarria operating in the wide roles.
That represents a significant reshuffle after Romeo Lavia had started Chelsea’s opening four Premier League matches.
Welbeck replaces João Pedro in Chelsea attack
João Pedro is another notable absentee from the XI following the injury which forced him to withdraw from Brazil duty.
Chelsea had waited until their final preparations before making a decision on the striker after Alonso confirmed nobody had initially been ruled out of the Brentford fixture.
Welbeck gets the opportunity to lead the line instead.
The veteran striker already made an impact in the Carabao Cup earlier this season and is supported by Palmer and Rogers at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Moises Caicedo and Reece James also miss out on the starting XI after facing late fitness decisions.

Chelsea: Martínez; Fofana, Lacroix, Colwill (C); Neto, Henderson, Barco, Chavarria; Palmer, Rogers; Welbeck.
The formation is expected to be Alonso’s familiar 3-4-2-1, with Wesley Fofana, Maxence Lacroix and Colwill forming the back three in front of Emi Martínez.
Henderson and Barco provide a completely new midfield partnership, while the pace of Neto and Chavarria gives Chelsea width.
Alonso had been expected to make changes after the Hull draw, but Henderson’s immediate introduction represents one of his biggest selection calls of the season so far.
Chelsea kick off against Brentford at 8pm as they attempt to head into the international break with three points.
