Massive for Iraola: Liverpool have now"restarted"contract talks with"outstanding"ace

Liverpool are believed to have “restarted” contract talks with key midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, following a good start to the season for the Argentine.

The 27-year-old was uncharacteristically vocal about his situation with the Reds earlier this month, making it clear that he is hurt at not being offered a new deal:

“I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which of course makes me very, very sad. Everyone can see I give 100 percent for this football club, every single day in training, games.

“Of course, I can have very good games, bad games, like everyone, but I always give my best. I see Dominik and Ryan renewing their contracts and that makes me very happy because they deserve it, but at the same time it makes me a little bit sad that I didn’t get mine.”

Now, writing on X, a respected source has provided a significant update on Mac Allister, saying: “Alexis Mac Allister’s contract talks restarted.”

Alexis Mac Allister is justifying new Liverpool deal

Mac Allister is a great character, and he has outlined that in his recent performances since his comments, scoring excellent goals against Atletico Madrid and Tottenham.

He looks far more influential than he did last season, even if he isn’t quite back to his absolute best, and Steven Gerrard lauded him after the 2-1 win over Atletico, saying:

“I thought his performance tonight was outstanding. Let your football do the talking. Consistency, top performance, show your experience. Show you’re a top international. This club will reward you.”

Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai were handed extensions earlier this year, but neither are pulling up trees this season, struggling in a double pivot.

Mac Allister is performing the best of the three, and on current evidence, handing him a new deal makes complete sense, especially as he remains in and around his peak years.

Liverpool don’t have enough winners in their current squad – those with the ability to manage games and master the dark arts – but the Argentina World Cup winner is one of them, and he is a big player for Andoni Iraola.
