Liverpool"have held talks"over January signing of"very different"once-in-20-year midfielder

Liverpool “have held talks” over the signing of Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara in the January transfer window, according to former agent Mick Brown.

The Senegal international was a player who many Reds supporters were desperate to see move to Anfield this summer, but he ended up staying put at Monaco.

Chelsea were also seen as strong contenders to complete the signing of Camara, and he is sure to have a host of suitors in the coming transfer windows.

Speaking to Football Insider, Brown continued to talk up Liverpool’s interest in the 22-year-old, with a move midway through this season looking possible:

“Lamine Camara is a name that has been discussed behind the scenes. Liverpool will be keeping an eye on how he gets on for Monaco, but there is definitely a deal to be done as we saw when he nearly joined Chelsea.

“His agent has been very outspoken about trying to get him a move, so I expect Liverpool will have held talks with him about the possibility of signing him in January.

“They’ll know his demands, they’ll have done their homework about his attitude and how he might fit into the squad, because it’s important they don’t just rush into it.

Lamine Camara should be Liverpool’s No.1 January target

Camara is a fantastic young midfielder with a huge amount of potential, and he would give Liverpool the balance and defensive nous that they crave under Andoni Iraola.

The Senegalese covers ground with ease, and is also strong in possession, and Monaco manager Filipe Luis called him a once-in-20-year player recently, saying:

“Of everything I have seen, there is one player who stands out. I have never seen anything like it in 20 years, and that is Lamine Camara. He is a very different player from anything I have seen before. His ability to manage the field, his concentration, he is at a level far, far above average.”

At this point, Camara does feel like an attainable option for Liverpool, and a player of his type is vital, with the likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai not suited to a double pivot.
