Club president Joan Laporta and Telefónica España chairman Borja Ochoa took part in an official signing ceremony announcing the deal.

The Espai Barça project includes the Estadi Johan Cruyff, now completed, as well as a new indoor arena and a public plaza. In addition, refurbishments to the Camp Nou, Barcelona’s iconic home ground, make up the bulk of the project.

“This agreement with Telefónica brings to Espai Barça a leading technology and telecommunications company that understands the scale and ambition of the project. This partnership will allow us to continue working towards an increasingly connected and innovative Spotify Camp Nou and will help us offer the best possible experiences to our members and fans in general,” Laporta said.

The deal will last for five years. Telefónica will also have a box at the stadium as well as a lounge space named after it there.

“Telefónica is reaffirming its institutional role as a driving force in the Spanish economy, its support for culture and sport, and its commitment to Catalonia and the city of Barcelona,” Ochoa said.

Telefónica also highlighted that the company invested 121 million euros in Catalonia last year. The company has more than 1,000 employees in the region.
