Ex-Man City defender Danny Mills thinks the addition of Enzo Fernandez is a “game changer” for his former club.
Speaking exclusively to Man City News (courtesy of BestBettingBonuses.co.uk), Mills singled out the Argentinian’s arrival from Chelsea on Deadline Day as the key reason why he believes Enzo Maresca’s side can compete for the title:
“I think a game changer for City, from probably being a maybe team to definitely challenging, is the Enzo Fernandez signing. I looked at their midfield before that and thought, okay, it’s decent. But Enzo Fernandez coming into that midfield suddenly gives you real quality, real belief, and something a little bit different that they didn’t have before he was there.”
“Elliot Anderson, no doubt, is going to play a lot of games and is a very, very good player. But Enzo Fernandez brings in something a little bit different – that little bit of steel, that little bit of nastiness, that little bit of guile. And I think he will be able to drag them through difficult situations at times.”
Maresca played a key role in Fernandez’s transfer
Speaking shortly after he sealed his £125m switch to the Etihad, the midfielder made it clear how important the manager had been in him joining the club.
Enzo Maresca had worked closely with Fernandez during his 18-month spell in charge of Chelsea, and he was influential in the midfielder playing in a more advanced position.
The 25-year-old scored 15 goals in all competitions last season, as well as contributing 7 assists.
