New Portland Trail Blazers guard Ja Morant had a brief reaction after learning that the Memphis Grizzlies had traded him.
A clip of Morant reacting to the move was recently shared on social media and quickly circulated online.
"Damn. They sent me to Portland, man," Morant said after receiving news of the summer trade.
The Grizzlies traded Morant to the Trail Blazers on June 29 in exchange for Jerami Grant, Kris Murray, and approximately $1 million in cash considerations.
Morant has two years remaining on his contract and is set to earn approximately $42.2 million in 2026-27 and $44.9 million in 2027-28 before becoming eligible for free agency in 2028.
Morant spent seven seasons with Memphis
Memphis selected Morant with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
He won Rookie of the Year in 2020 before earning two All-Star selections, an All-NBA Second Team spot, and the 2022 Most Improved Player award.
Morant also helped Memphis win 56 games in the 2021-22 season, tying the franchise record, and set the Grizzlies' single-game scoring record with 52 points.
His availability became a major issue later in his Memphis tenure. Morant played only 79 games over his final three seasons because of injuries and suspensions.
Last season, he appeared in just 20 games and averaged 19.5 points and 8.1 assists.
He leaves Memphis with career averages of 22.4 points, 7.4 assists, and 4.6 rebounds across 327 regular-season games.
