David Moyes expects Harrison Armstrong to be available whenEverton face Ipswich Town at the Hill Dickinson on Saturday, although the midfielder is yet to be completely cleared after missing the midweek Carabao Cup win over Wolves.
Armstrong picked up a minor problem in training before Wednesday’s 1-0 victory and was left out of the squad as a precaution. Assistant manager Alan Irvine was hopeful afterwards that the 19-year-old would recover in time to face Ipswich.
“He got a little injury in training,” Irvine said, as reported by the Liverpool Echo. “We assessed him this morning and he wasn’t ready. We are hopeful he will be ready for the weekend. It is not a major injury.”
Moyes offered further encouragement on Friday, although he stopped short of confirming Armstrong’s availability.
“We’re still waiting on Harrison a little bit to see how he is,” he said. “We’re expecting him to be okay, Harrison.”
Everton team news ahead of Ipswich
Armstrong’s return would be particularly welcome with Merlin Rohl and Christian Norgaard both ruled out.
Rohl has not recovered from the injury he suffered against Manchester United, with Moyes hoping to have him available again by the end of the international break. Norgaard is also targeting a return after the break as he continues to wait for his competitive Everton debut.
There are more positive selection headaches further forward after Moyes made five changes for the Carabao Cup victory over Wolves.
Tyler Dibling was named man of the match after producing comfortably his best performance of the season and setting up Carlos Alcaraz for the late winner.
The winger’s standout display against Wolves prompted Irvine to say he now looks as though he “belongs” at Everton, having challenged the youngster before kick-off to give Moyes a difficult decision to make.
His praise for Dibling leaves Moyes with something to consider as several of those rested in midweek push to return.
Everton go into Saturday unbeaten in six matches in all competitions, including four Premier League games, while Ipswich arrive having beaten Crystal Palace 3-2 at Selhurst Park last weekend.
The sides last met at Goodison Park in May 2025, when Ipswich recovered from two goals down to draw 2-2. Everton had won 2-0 at Portman Road earlier that season.
