Five Arsenal players have been named in Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad, while Ben White misses the upcoming Nations League fixtures because of injury.
Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ezri Konsa have all been selected for the extended international window.
The full England squad confirmed by the FA will meet at St George’s Park before facing Spain, Czechia and Croatia across four matches.
White would also have been in contention following his impressive start to the season, but Tuchel revealed the Arsenal defender was unavailable because of his recent injury problem.
Ben White Misses England Squad Through Injury
White suffered a groin problem during Arsenal’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Sunderland.
He was replaced at half-time and subsequently missed the midweek Carabao Cup win against Ipswich Town.
There had been optimism over his availability for Saturday’s trip to Brighton after Mikel Arteta suggested Arsenal’s injured defenders were progressing positively.
However, Tuchel provided a different update when explaining his England selection.
Speaking after announcing the squad, the England head coach confirmed White had pulled out because of injury.
Tuchel also praised the defender’s start to the campaign, saying he had returned close to his best for Arsenal.
The situation creates another question before Brighton, with our latest Arsenal injury news ahead of the Amex trip tracking White alongside Jurriën Timber, Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié.
White’s absence from England does not automatically rule him out against Brighton.
Arteta was still hoping to assess several defenders during Arsenal’s final training session before the game.
Five Arsenal Players Named in England Squad
Arsenal will still have substantial representation during the international break.
Arsenal players selected by England:
Bukayo Saka
Declan Rice
Eberechi Eze
Myles Lewis-Skelly
Ezri Konsa
Rice enters the window as one of England’s most experienced midfielders, having now earned 80 senior caps.
Saka has 56 appearances for his country and remains one of Tuchel’s leading attacking options.
Eze has also established himself within the senior group, while Konsa continues to feature regularly in defence.
Lewis-Skelly returns to the squad after missing England’s World Cup group during the summer.
His inclusion represents another significant step after the Arsenal academy graduate established himself at senior international level last season.
Saka and White Partnership Had Interested Tuchel
White’s injury is particularly frustrating because Tuchel had been considering his partnership with Saka on Arsenal’s right side.
The England manager explained that the understanding between the pair could have been valuable internationally after their strong start to the club season.
Saka has again become central to Arsenal’s attack after his fitness was carefully managed during the summer, with the winger previously revealing the work behind his Arsenal injury-prevention programme.
White’s availability has been less straightforward.
The defender missed the World Cup through injury and has now been unable to join another England camp despite forcing his way back into Tuchel’s plans earlier this year.
England Face Four Nations League Fixtures
England begin their Nations League campaign against world champions Spain at Wembley on Saturday 26 September.
They then travel to face Czechia on 29 September and Croatia on 3 October before hosting Czechia again on 6 October.
Arsenal’s five selected players could therefore face a demanding international schedule before returning to club football.
For White, the immediate priority is different.
His focus will remain on recovering from the groin issue and proving his fitness for Arsenal.
Whether that happens quickly enough for Saturday’s Brighton fixture should become clearer when Arteta names his squad at the Amex.
