Liverpool loanee Harvey Elliott could receive some more certainty over his short-term future at Valencia, with the Spanish club closing in on a new head coach.

‌

It follows a difficult start to life in La Liga for the playmaker, who has moved to the Mestalla on loan for the season in the hopes of rediscovering his best form once again.

‌

However, the 23-year-old has walked into a tough situation at Valencia, where patience has already run thin between the supporters and the rest of the club. A few early defeats for Elliott and his new side meant they sat bottom of the league, which sparked protests from the fanbase, with chants directed at the club's ownership, coaching staff, and players.

That eventually prompted the firing of Carlos Corberan, with the hope that a fresh voice in the locker room could get more out of the players.

The decision has been a twist for Liverpool loanee Elliott, however, who had received just two substitute appearances from the manager who decided to sign him.

Oscar Sanchez, the interim manager, then snubbed the playmaker entirely in Valencia's first win over the season against Alaves, while the coming weeks could bring about another key twist in his future at the club.

According to ESPN, Valencia is closing in on the appointment of Javier Aguirre, with a formal offer expected in the coming days for the 67-year-old coach.

Aguirre is fresh from managing Mexico at its home World Cup in the summer, managing a run to the round of 16, before losing to semi-finalists England.

The experienced coach has been described as the "frontrunner" for the Valencia job since his contract with El Tri expired, and while he has received several other approaches, a return to La Liga is his preference.

In his career so far, Aguirre has plenty of experience in Spain, having managed Atletico Madrid, Osasuna, Espanyol, Zaragoza, Leganes, and Mallorca, with a proven track record when it comes to dealing with relegation battles.

There is still work to be done before it is finalized, but it could come as quite the boost to Valencia. What it means for Elliott, however, is unclear.

There is an opportunity for the Liverpool loanee to make an impact and seal a regular place under Aguirre, but he could equally be stuck in limbo once again, if he is unable to secure minutes.

Before then, Elliott and his teammates will be taking on Real Sociedad on Sunday in a huge match before the international break.
