Liverpool star Alexander Isak has been discussing the best players he has featured alongside in his career so far, picking a Manchester City icon in the process

Alexander Isak has acknowledged both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk in the conversation for the best player he has ever played alongside, but snubbed the Liverpool heroes in favor of a Manchester City icon instead.
The 26-year-old has already played alongside some of the greats of the modern era in his career, which has taken him to Borussia Dortmund, Real Sociedad, Newcastle, and now Liverpool. At times, Isak has shown the quality to be in those conversations himself at some point, with his spell at Newcastle in particular bringing about a sense of undeniability with his ability to find the back of the net.
Since moving to Liverpool, it hasn't been quite the same for the striker, with a lack of fitness at the start of his time at the club being compounded by a leg break in the middle of the season, resulting in a campaign that saw him score just four times.

The Reds will be expecting more in the months ahead, and with three goals already scored in the Premier League this season, the Swedish international is showing promising signs that he can get back to the level that he reached during the time he spent with the Magpies.
If Isak can keep finding the back of the net, and has some more match-winning moments that can lead to trophies, then he will quickly put himself in the conversation for being among the greats.
If he needed any examples for what it takes to reach that level at Anfield, then he only needs to look at Salah and Van Dijk, both of whom he played alongside. The pair have already sealed their legacies as modern-day legends, with many players citing them as the best they have ever played alongside.

While they seem to be in that conversation for Isak, he has recently revealed that Manchester City legend David Silva is the best player he has played alongside, having done so in their time together at Real Sociedad.
When asked by Sky Sports whether the Spaniard was the best player he has played alongside, he said: "Obviously I have played with players like Zlatan [Ibrahimovic], here Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk.
"But I think in terms of day-to-day training and seeing the quality, I think David Silva was something really, really special."
It perhaps shows the level of Silva, rather than downplays the achievements or qualities of Salah and Van Dijk, that he manages to stand above the rest in Isak's mind.
The duo ended up making 51 appearances together for Real Sociedad, before they parted ways, with Isak going on to impress in the Premier League, while Silva, who had already won the title multiple times, called his career to a halt in 2023.
It remains to be seen whether anyone could possibly knock Silva off of top spot for the striker, with Van Dijk and Salah not able to do so in his career so far.
