Barcelona have bizarrely told Anthony Gordon that his “goal will come” after sitting out of the 7-2 win over Racing Santander.
Gordon cut a frustrated figure on the bench as his new teammates ran riot at the Camp Nou. Newcastle United supporters occasionally saw the 25-year-old in a strop during his three-and-a-half-year stay on Tyneside.
While he has provided an impressive five assists in six games, Gordon is still searching for his first Barca goal. The former Toon ace would have been itching to get involved as the Catalans thrashed Racing to maintain their La Liga lead.
Hansi Flick on Karim Adeyemi
To make matters worse, Karim Adeyemi started ahead of him on the left flank and impressed, earning two penalties and providing an assist to Lamine Yamal. Hansi Flick discussed his impact to reporters after the game.
"Karim Adeyemi is lightning fast, though I'm not sure if he's the fastest of all the players I've coached,” he said. “Alphonso Davies is similar to him in that regard. He's a young guy and a great person, he respects his team-mates a lot and everyone loves him.
"His performance makes everything easier. I think he wasn't going through a good time in Germany and it did him good to change scenery and move to another country. I'm glad he came."

Barca caused a stir on social media by posting a bizarre show of support to Gordon. Fans in the comments appear torn on whether the message was necessary.
It is expected that Gordon will return to the side when Blaugrana travel to Sevilla tonight. A rampant start to the season has seen Barcelona win all six La Liga games - scoring 28 goals.

Gordon opened up to Spanish media in midweek about how the move to Barca materialised. He said to RAC1: “For a while, I didn’t believe it was true. “My agent told me and I was like ‘yeah, yeah okay’. I didn’t take too much interest because I didn’t think it was so true.
“I then had a phone call with Hansi Flick, so then I knew it was true. So I started to get really excited. I knew from the first time I met him he’d be a good coach for me. But, to be honest, it could have been anyone on that call and I would have come to Barca. It is a dream.”
