"I don't think..."- Big new claim emerges about Liverpool cutting ties with Florian Wirtz

**Recent rumours have suggested that Liverpool could look to sell Florian Wirtz in the near future, and journalist Pete O’Rourke has now provided a new update.**

The German is one of the Reds’ most talked-about players currently, but not for the right reasons, having struggled to excel at Anfield over the past 12 months.

The hope was that Wirtz would kick on in his second season in the Premier League, adjusting to the pace of it and shining under a new manager, but he has made a slow start to the campaign.

It has led to links emerging about a potential exit from Liverpool in the summer of 2027, with a [move to Bayern Munich](https://www.goal.com/en-ca/lists/florian-wirtz-bayern-munich-michael-olise-liverpool-transfer/bltd5e083026dcf1e7e) and a return to Germany potentially on the cards.

But speaking to [_Football Insider_](https://www.footballinsider247.com/liverpool/andoni-iraola-exploring-florian-wirtzs-best-position-in-liverpools-team), O’Rourke played down the rumours, saying he remains an important part of Andoni Iraola’s plans moving forward:

_“They’re still relying on him. I don’t think there are any plans on Liverpool’s end to offload Florian Wirtz anytime soon. I don’t think they’re ready to write him off just yet._

_“He was very impressive in that Champions League win against Ateltico Madrid earlier this month as well. So look, it’s up to Andoni Iraola to find the best position for him in the team and try and get the best out of Florian Wirtz.”_

Wirtz deserves plenty of the criticism coming his way, with more influence, consistency and fire needed in his performances, more on the ball than off it.

But the 23-year-old is an elite footballer who can be a superstar for Liverpool if he has the right players around him, and he is used as the focal point in the system.

Currently, Wirtz has an imbalanced midfield behind him, which isn’t helping, while new signings Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz are still finding their feet. More is also needed from Alexander Isak, in terms of link-up play with him.

As mentioned, that’s not to say that Wirtz is blameless, and he has to be doing more given the money paid for him, but moving him on after just two seasons would be a poor decision.
