An NFL head coach was revealed to be living with his parents after taking a new job ahead of the 2026 season.
The return of the NFL means that the many pre- and post-game shows covering America’s most popular sports league are back on television screens across the country, including FOX NFL Sunday, now in its 33rd consecutive season on the air.
The eccentric and unpredictable crew of Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Michael Strahan, Rob Gronkowski, Jay Glazer, and host Curt Menefee have always been known to provide comic relief along with their football expertise. Ahead of Week 1, they revealed a humorous and unexpected tidbit of information about one NFL head coach.
Glazer, the insider of the group, revealed on Sunday that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy has been living with his parents since his return to the sidelines in the Steel City.
The 62-year-old head coach, who was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, agreed to become the Steelers' head coach in Jan. 2026 in succession to Mike Tomlin, who had been at the helm for the previous 19 seasons.
Rather than getting his own place, McCarthy decided to stay with his parents, who still reside in the area. His salary isn’t public, although sources indicate he is making more than $10 million a year to be the head coach of one of the NFL’s most prestigious franchises.

“I don’t know if it’s a tough situation or not tough, because he is going home to coach. He grew up in Pittsburgh." Glazer said on FOX NFL Sunday ahead of the Steelers’ Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons.
"I talked to him this morning and he said, ‘Definitely going to be emotional, I don’t know if I’m going to be able to keep it all in check.’”
Glazer then quizzed the rest of the panel, asking, ”How about this, he didn’t go in and buy this new, huge, beautiful house. Guess where he’s living right now?”
Strahan replied, “I don’t want to say, can’t be where I’m thinking,” before Glazer revealed McCarthy is living back at home with his parents, Joe and Ellen.
“He’s living with his parents, it’s like his mom’s basement,” Glazer said. “I’m like, dude, I am so coming to your house and be like, ‘Mrs. McCarthy, I need a grilled cheese sandwich.’ He’s like, ‘You’re not coming to my house, dude. No shot, no chance.’”
The crew then joked about pooling together some money for McCarthy so he can move out, knowing very well that he can afford to do so himself.
After spending 13 years as head coach of the Green Bay Packers between 2006 and 2018, then five seasons as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys from 2020 to 2024, it is possible that McCarthy is just enjoying some time with his parents after being away for so long before ultimately buying his own place.
