Harvey Elliott might return to Anfield. The Liverpool player is struggling to make an impact in La Liga despite his transfer to Valencia. If things don’t improve quick, he might consider a return to Anfield.

Elliott to return to Liverpool next year?

Elliott’s transfer to Valencia didn’t turn out to be a great choice. As reported by Mirror, the 23-year-old Elliott is struggling with his loan spell at Valencia. He had joined the club on a loan spell a couple of weeks ago. Previously, Elliott was on loan at Aston Villa at well. However, he didn’t do well last season. The attacking midfielder drew a blank slate at the 2025-26 Premier League. He hoped to change his fortunes with a loan spell at Valencia. However, his luck hasn’t changed much for now.

Valencia has won only one out of six games till now, and are currently placed 18th in the La Liga for the 2026-27 season. Elliott joined Liverpool in 2019. In 2020, he made a move to the Blackburn Rovers on a loan spell. In 2021, the midfielder returned to the Reds, and he played for the club till 2025. Subsequently, he joined Aston Villa on another loan spell.

Elliott’s stats for the 2025-26 season at Aston Villa, as per FOTMOB:

Competitions Matches Chances Created Passing Accuracy(%)

Premier League 5 1 84.1%

UEFA Europa League 4 — 87.7%

EFL Cup 1 1 90.6%

Will the Reds allow the return of Elliott?

Elliott signed a contract extension with the Reds in August 2022. As such, the Englishman can still return to Anfield if he wants to. However, the road to Liverpool is far from a cakewalk for the attacking midfielder. Unless Elliott proves his mettle on field, the Reds won’t be too enthusiastic in accepting him back. Besides, the Reds are already working on a major overhaul under Andoni Iraola. They want to win back the Premier League title that slipped from their hands last season. The Reds finished fifth overall in the 2025-26 League table.

What’s next for Harvey Elliott?

Elliott has a clean record in terms of both fitness and disciplinary issues. If he wants to become a big name in club football, he just needs to maintain his current form. In international career, Elliott has made England proud at the junior levels. However, he is yet to make his senior debut for England. This was also the reason why he was left out from the England squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026. However, Elliott is hopeful of a better future.

Elliott needs to rethink his options with Valencia if they don’t improve quickly. The Spanish club are struggling to regain their form in the next few matches. Valencia had an average outing in the 2025-26 season. They finished in ninth place in the 2025-26 La Liga. However, they somehow made up for it by reaching the quarter-final stage of Copa del Rey. If Valencia don’t improve on their current position, things will become tougher. That is the main reason Harvey Elliott is not too keen on continuing with the Spanish club throughout the 2026-27 season. He wouldn’t like to be on another sinking ship.

For Elliott, the current season is make or break. If he performs well for Valencia, he can convince the Reds to bring him back. If he doesn’t, he will have to consider other options. He could help Liverpool achieve unprecedented heights. It remains to be seen if the Reds are equally interested in bringing him back or not.
