In the latest Arizona Cardinals rumors, the team is likely to trade veteran running back James Conner after overhauling its backfield unit this past offseason. Conner, a former third-round pick, remains a top trade candidate heading into Week Two of the 2026 regular season. However, the veteran remains on injured reserve due to a lingering foot issue and is expected to return in Week Five. After the Cardinals drafted Jeremiyah Love while signing Tyler Allgeier, Arizona could seek to trade the veteran running back once healthy.
Upon return, the 31-year-old veteran is slated to be the team’s RB3. Unfortunately, the two-time Pro Bowler hasn’t been the same since suffering a season-ending knee injury in 2023. The running back still finished with 208 carries for 1,040 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns, resembling a similar performance in 2024. However, last season, the veteran suffered a season-ending ankle injury and was replaced by former Cardinals running back Trey Benson.
Now, once the veteran is proven healthy, a contender should be interested. The running back’s reworked contract makes it a manageable trade, as he will be an unrestricted free agent next offseason.
