New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani takes some shots at the Knicks' ticket prices image
It has been a couple of months since the New York Knicks pulled off one of the most magical championship runs in NBA history. They have earned the right to brag about their win, and they will be raising their banner at Madison Square Garden during their season opener on October 20.
That will be a matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers, so it will be quite a blockbuster game. Everyone in New York City would love to see the Knicks raise their banner while also watching the first matchup against the new-look 76ers.
NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani is surprised by the Knicks' ticket prices
Unfortunately for a good chunk of the Knicks' fan base, they won't be able to afford to watch that season opener at Madison Square Garden. That is due to the exorbitant prices that Knicks tickets are going for after the championship.
The tickets are starting at over $1,000, which is already outrageous. However, it gets even worse because the prices are continuing to go up, even reaching around $2,000.

As a leader who has made affordability a big part of his ideology, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani seems to be not a fan of what the Knicks are doing with their ticket prices.
"Hopefully at cheaper ticket prices. Brother, I do not have $2,000 ready for that ticket," Mamdani said to NBC New York when asked if he would watch the season opener at MSG.
It is a valid concern for both Mamdani and the rest of the Knicks fan base. The fans want to watch the champions defend their title, but they might not be able to because they can't afford the extraordinary prices that are being set for the tickets.
