Jets Rule Out Wide Receiver For A Month

The New York Jets will be without one of their first-round picks for at least the next four games. Rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. is being placed on injured reserve after suffering an ankle sprain in the Jets’ Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans, according to ESPN.

Cooper, the No. 30 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, suffered the injury during a 30-yard catch-and-run in the first half against Tennessee. It was the first reception of his NFL career and came on just his fifth offensive snap.

The injury will keep Cooper out of Sunday’s home matchup with the Green Bay Packers. He’ll also miss road games against the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears, along with the Jets’ home game against the Cleveland Browns.

The earliest Cooper could return is Week 6, when New York travels to face the New England Patriots. Without Cooper, the Jets will rely more on Garrett Wilson and AD Mitchell in the passing game.

Isaiah Williams could also see an increased role in the slot. Williams played 60% of the offensive snaps in the season opener and could be asked to take on more responsibility while Cooper is sidelined.

The Jets could also look to get rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq more involved. The first-round pick caught three passes for 21 yards against Tennessee and added a 3-yard rushing touchdown.

Cooper entered training camp appearing to be behind Williams in the battle for the starting slot role, but he quickly made up ground and earned opportunities with the first team. His debut was cut short by the ankle injury, but the Jets appear hopeful that he won’t be sidelined for an extended period.

For a rookie who was beginning to carve out a role in New York’s offense, it’s an unfortunate setback. Now, the Jets will have to find a way to replace his snaps until he’s ready to return.
