Per NBA insider Marc Stein, Dwight Powell is expected to receive a formal invitation from the Mavs to attend their training camp.
The big man will join despite the Mavs having a full 15-player roster already.

After the Boston Celtics drafted him in 2014, Powell has spent most of his career since then with the Dallas Mavericks, becoming a fan favorite and a beloved figure in the organization.
Powell fully embraced whatever role and contribution he can give in Dallas, from starting as a center, playing backup minutes, or giving important veteran presence across the team.
In 12 seasons as a Maverick, the 35-year-old averaged 6.5 points and 4.3 rebounds in 763 games played.
It remains to be seen whether Powell will make it to the Mavs' final roster spot. In the end, given his strong ties to the organization, he might eventually land a coaching gig with the team.
