The head coach of the LSU Tigers, Lane Kiffin, has started his first year with a bang. Kiffin joined the program after making a controversial exit from the Ole Miss Rebels, which continues to catch headlines every now and then.

Kiffin has been catching the media’s attention and, in a way, keeping the pressure off the program. While the head coach has gone through scrutiny, former NFL quarterback Cam Newton believes Kiffin deserves more credit for understanding how to take advantage of the modern college football landscape and said:
“I don’t think Lane Kiffin gets enough praise because even with the NFL players, all Lane was doing was exposing loopholes.
“How many people have benefited off loopholes in America? To this day, Lane has realized, ‘Oh, y’all like Lil Wayne? Are we in New Orleans? Oh, let me go and get Lil Wayne. Oh, y’all want all the rah? I’m gonna have storylines that’s going to hit TikTok, Instagram, YouTube.’ He’s playing the game. Why is nobody talking about that?”
He also said:
“Lane Kiffin is probably the most Gen Z coach in college football. Even Prime. More than Prime. Yeah, Prime’s a little more old school. Because Prime’s more old school and he’s going to give perspective like, ‘Hey, hey dog, I’mma tell you like this, dog. Hey man, you better do… I’m fining you.’ You see what I’m saying? He’ll give you the reason. He’s more relatable.”
Newton also added that the head coach has a crazy fan base and pointed out that, no matter what Paul Finebaum may feel, “Uncle Paulie” can call him immature all he wants. However, 98.9% of the individuals in college locker rooms are immature.
Newton’s comments show why Kiffin remains one of the most discussed coaches in college football. His approach may not impress everyone, but he understands how to connect with younger players, use social media and keep attention around his program.
The LSU coach has never been afraid to challenge traditional ideas or take advantage of changing rules. However, his methods will continue to bring criticism, especially as expectations remain high at LSU.
The real test will be whether Kiffin’s personality and creative strategies can consistently produce victories. If LSU continues winning, Newton’s argument will become even stronger. Kiffin’s critics may question his maturity, but his ability to understand modern players could become one of the program’s greatest strengths in the future.
