Controversy began on “The Pat McAfee Show” during a live broadcast on Thursday, when host Pat McAfee was seen putting a lit item into an ashtray. Although it wasn’t officially confirmed what he was holding, McAfee jokingly called it “sage.”

His joke gave rival sports shows an opportunity to poke fun at him. On FOX Sports 1’s show “First Things First,” co-host Nick Wright made fun of McAfee’s viral incident. Celebrating the Buffalo Bills’ win over the Detroit Lions (41-31), Wright was seen drinking a beer on set and sarcastically said that new rules for smoking and drinking on TV have arrived.
“It is a special day, and they did open a new stadium,” Wright said. “And I’m here to tell you we have to, we really, we have to christen the Buffalo Bills with the championship.. Well, there’s new rules about what you’re allowed to smoke… Congrats Buffalo. You earned it.
“No, this apple juice,” he added. “We don’t worry about it.”
