After yesterday’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton, 19 members of Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad now turn their attention to FIFA’s extended Interlull.
Most national teams will play up to four times during the break. Nations League fixtures await Arsenal’s European contingent, while Gabriel, Bruno and Piero face friendlies on the other side of the globe with their respective South American nations.
We did a double-take when we saw Brazil have two games against Australia Down Under followed by a trip to India.
Marli Salmon and Max Dowman are also heading abroad for friendlies with England’s youth teams.
It’s worth noting that Jurgen Klopp has named a 44-man Germany squad which he plans to split in two. Kai Havertz will therefore feature in the first two matches before returning to London. As far as we can tell, he’s the only coach taking such a novel approach.
The Gunners return to action on 10 October when England’s most disgusting club, Leeds United, visit the Emirates.
