Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce gifted his jersey to teammate Xavier Worthy after Monday's 31-10 win over the Denver Broncos, despite making NFL history during the Week 1 game.
Kelce was the Chiefs' leading receiver on Monday night with 71 receiving yards, which moved him to second for all-time career receiving yards by an NFL tight end. Before the game, Kelce appeared to slap a fan's hand and was also seen punting opposition footballs during warm-ups.
However, Kelce showed his love for his teammates and Worthy after the game by giving the wide receiver his jersey with a personal message. It comes after Kelce was caught up in a $35 million Ponzi scheme.
Kelce passed Jason Witten (13,046 yards) with a 59-yard reception in the third quarter from quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Kelce is now around 2,000 yards shy of Tony Gonzalez, who is the outright leader.
While many may have expected Kelce to keep the jersey, he instead gave it to Worthy with a heartfelt message written on the back. Worthy then shared a photo of the jersey on his Instagram story.
Kelce wrote on the No. 8 section of his jersey, "X! My brother forever! Cherish every time we step on the field. One of the realest on & off the grid iron!"

Then, on the No. 7, Kelce wrote," 2nd all time 9/14/26." When sharing the photo, Worthy added, "My dawg killatrav #2 all time joint."
Worthy had just 18 receiving yards from three receptions during Monday's opening game, and is looking for a comeback season after a drop off in 2025. Worthy had a stunning rookie campaign with six receiving touchdowns and three rushing scores, but only managed one touchdown in his second season.
However, Worthy's last campaign was directly affected by Kelce, who injured his teammate during the season opener. Kelce collided with Worthy on a route during a 27-21 defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers, and instantly took responsibility.
"I ran into one of my guys and offed him out of the game; I literally took one of my players out," Kelce said of Worthy. "That's one of the most frustrating parts, and it's hard to get your juices back going knowing you just hurt a guy.
"I'm supposed to be running my route at depth for Worthy, so it's frustrating for me," Kelce added. "I was trying to kind of set up my guy to be able to get in a position, and it all just happened pretty quick. And I just got to be better, man. I'm 13 years in the league.

"There's no excuse for me running into my own guys like that. Worthy has his guy beat and we're out the gate, and that game starts completely different."
There were no notable injuries for the Chiefs in Week 1, with Mahomes returning after recovering from a torn ACL and LCL. Kelce’s gesture may have been to make up for the last season opener.
