Greece are set to embark on a new chapter in the UEFA Nations League after securing promotion to League A, putting them among Europe’s top sides for the first time in the competition’s history.

Ivan Jovanovic has now announced his squad for the opening four fixtures of the 2026/27 campaign, with Greece facing a demanding sequence of matches against Serbia, Germany and the Netherlands.

Their historic League A journey begins away from home against Serbia on September 24, before Jovanovic’s side travels to Germany three days later.

Greece will then return home for consecutive fixtures at the Toumba Stadium, hosting the Netherlands on October 1 before welcoming Germany on October 4.

The squad contains a blend of established internationals and some of Greece’s emerging talents, with the manager naming three goalkeepers, 11 defenders, six midfielders and eight forwards.

There is also Premier League representation in the squad, with several players bringing experience of English football into what promises to be a challenging international window.

And Liverpool supporters will have particular interest in one of the names included.

Konstantinos Tsimikas has been officially called up by Greece for their opening four Nations League matches.

The Liverpool left-back features among Jovanovic’s defensive options alongside Konstantinos Mavropanos, Giannis Michaelides, Panagiotis Retsos, Konstantinos Koulierakis, Manolis Saliakas, George Vagiannidis, George Kyriakopoulos and Andreas Doi.

Tsimikas, who has been part of the Greek national team setup for several years, brings significant international and European experience to a squad preparing for a major step up in opposition.

Greece’s promotion to League A came after a convincing 3-0 victory away to Scotland in the Nations League promotion/relegation play-offs.

The result secured their place in the competition’s top division and set up a group containing three formidable opponents.

The challenge is particularly significant because Greece have been drawn against Germany, the Netherlands and Serbia.

Their opening four matches will therefore provide an early indication of how Jovanovic’s side can handle the increased level of competition.

Alongside Tsimikas, the squad includes experienced names such as Odysseas Vlachodimos, Mavropanos, Fotis Ioannidis, Vangelis Pavlidis and Christos Tzolis, while younger players including Konstantinos Karetsas and Charalampos Kostoulas have also been selected.

For Tsimikas, the international window comes during a busy period of the club season.

His inclusion gives Jovanovic another experienced option at left-back as Greece prepare for their historic League A debut.

The Liverpool defender will now hope to play his part as Greece begin their campaign against Serbia before facing Germany, the Netherlands and Germany again across an 11-day period.
