Collin Sexton reveals how Austin Reaves is doing as a leader for the Lakers image
After LeBron James left the Los Angeles Lakers for the Philadelphia 76ers, there is clearly a new era for the team. However, they do still have some holdovers in Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
Of course, expectations are high for the former because he is one of the league's best players. However, Reaves is also stepping up not only as one of the best players, but also as a leader in the locker room, and it has not gone unnoticed.
Austin Reaves' growth as a leader is a big deal for the Lakers
Ahead of the 2026-27 season, the Lakers are in a unique spot because they are not seen as top contenders, but they are not one of the worst teams either. They definitely have a high ceiling because of Doncic's star power, but they could also have a tough floor if things go wrong.
With head coach JJ Redick coming off two strong seasons, this will be the first time he will be leading the team without LeBron. While Luka has stood out, there will still be an adjustment period, especially with leadership.

Thankfully for the Lakers, it seems that Reaves has taken it upon himself to set a strong example for the team. New Laker Collin Sexton has admitted that Reaves has impressed him because of how he has become a leader for the team.
"Each and every day when he's in the gym, he's ready to work. No complaints out of him; he's one of the leaders on the team. He comes in with the attitude of pushing each other, but also allowing others to push him," Sexton said about Reaves growing as a leader on the Lakers.
"That's his one thing; he impacts winning, and he impacts the game in so many different ways. I definitely look forward to playing with him."
With this kind of glowing review, Reaves has a big year ahead of him. He will be the clear-cut second star behind Doncic, which could mean a massive 2026-27 campaign ahead for Reaves and the rest of the Lakers.
