Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes there are two Bournemouth players who could be targeted by the Reds in the transfer market because of the Andoni Iraola connection.

‌

On his first return to the Vitality Stadium as a head coach, Iraola won 1-0 against his former club. Alexander Isak's second-half goal was enough to settle a tight game that was at times lacking in quality.

‌

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott impressed again, with the former Bristol City man having been called up for England duty by Thomas Tuchel. He was one of the youngsters, also including Rio Ngumoha, who trained with the Three Lions before the World Cup this summer.

Chelsea made at least one bid for Scott during the previous transfer window, and it does appear that he could be one of the next stars to leave the Cherries in search of the next step in their career.

"I think he’s a wonderful player," Carragher said on Sky Sports when he was asked about Scott.

"There was a lot of interest in him in the summer and because Liverpool have a former Bournemouth manager, you almost think: will there be a link or will there be a couple of players moving that way?

"I thought Rayan was fantastic last season as well. It will have been really good for him to get a goal in midweek because he probably hasn’t been himself at the start of the season. There are some fantastic players here at Bournemouth."

It was the former Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes who signed Scott for Bournemouth. He only went back to the south coast for one signing at Anfield: Milos Kerkez.

But Liverpool may need more reinforcements next year, with the squad currently looking a little light in terms of competing for the very biggest prizes and on all fronts simultaneously.

Next up for Liverpool is a visit from Manchester City, but that is not until October 10. Before then, the majority of the Reds players will head out for international duty.

"We will still train, but it's true that we are training with four or five players because most of the team is playing with the national team," Iraola explained in his post-match press conference.

"The players will have now some days off and then we will keep working with the ones that stay. Then we will prepare well for when the others come and you have no more than three days probably to prepare for the [Manchester] City game.

"We are ready not just for that game, but for the run of games that we have that is going to be demanding."

Liverpool.com says: Scott and Rayan would both be excellent additions for the Reds, but they would cost the best part of $300M between them. It isn't as simple as identifying them as talents, though a left-footed forward should remain a priority.
