Chelsea Transfer News has a fresh twist around Alejandro Garnacho, with Aston Villa sources rejecting suggestions that the winger has already reached the end of his loan spell. The 22-year-old joined Villa from Chelsea in July on a loan deal containing a conditional obligation to buy. Sky Sports reported that the clause sits within a package worth around £42.6 million, while Chelsea confirmed that the permanent move depends on certain criteria being met. Chelsea had signed Garnacho from Manchester United for £40 million in August 2025. Chelsea’s official record says he made 43 appearances and scored eight goals during the 2025/26 campaign.
His start at Villa Park, however, has been slow. Garnacho has made three Premier League substitute appearances and has yet to start a league match. Soccerbase lists him with 31 minutes in the competition. He then remained an unused substitute during Villa’s 3-1 Carabao Cup win over Coventry City.
Emery explained that Garnacho had fallen behind because of circumstances during pre-season, while he urged the winger to keep training and wait for his opportunities. George Hemmings, Alysson and Ibrahim Mbaye have impressed Emery and currently sit ahead of Garnacho in the attacking pecking order. Yet Bailey’s report says Villa have not closed the door, and sources still believe Garnacho can earn enough chances to change the situation.
From Chelsea’s perspective, a permanent sale would settle a move that already looked temporary soon after Garnacho’s arrival. His £40 million transfer from Manchester United came only last summer, yet Chelsea moved him on again after one season. That decision makes a permanent Villa transfer financially significant because the club would avoid bringing back a player who has already fallen out of its immediate plans.
The sporting issue matters just as much. Garnacho’s best work comes when he receives space, attacks defenders directly and carries the ball at speed. From the left, he can cut inside on his right foot and shoot, while his acceleration gives him a clear threat in transition. However, crowded areas expose his decision-making, and Emery has demanded stronger defensive work and tracking.
That point makes the current situation more complicated than a simple lack of form. Villa need wide players who can follow their structure without the ball, while Garnacho needs regular minutes to show that he can meet those demands. The club’s current competition has made that difficult, especially after strong displays from younger options.
There is a useful warning from last season, too. Villa had a similar conditional arrangement with Harvey Elliott, who failed to reach the required appearances before returning to Liverpool. Emery later expressed regret over that outcome. Garnacho now faces a different starting point, yet the comparison explains why his next run of appearances matters so much.
For Chelsea, the cleanest outcome would be the permanent £42 million move being triggered through Garnacho’s performances rather than a forced decision. The club cannot control Emery’s team selections, and trying to engineer appearances would create an awkward sporting situation.
