After the first five games of the Premier League season, a prolonged three-week international break is upon football fans. Enzo Maresca's Manchester City head into the break top of the table, after Arsenal lost their first game of the season to Brighton 3-0.
At the other end of the table, Tottenham Hotspur sit bottom, failing to win a single game and only scoring twice all season.

Erling Haaland leads the goalscoring charts, netting five times whilst Alexander Isak follows closely behind with four goals.
But who has been the best performer so far this season? Using football analysts WhoScored, we have the top 20 players so far in the Premier League this season.
20. Konstantinos Tzolakis - 7.31

Hull City have enjoyed a strong start to their first season back in the Premier League, even beating Manchester United on the opening day. They have been strong in defence, and Tzolakis has been key to that, making plenty of fine saves for the Tigers. He takes 20th spot with an average rating of 7.31.

Only just beating Tzolakis to the 19th-place spot, Cody Gakpo has achieved an average rating of 7.33. He has appeared in all five of Liverpool's opening games, starting four times. In 372 minutes, he has scored one goal and provided three assists for Andoni Iraola's side. It could've been very different for the Dutchman if his departure from the Reds was given the go-ahead.
18. Kevin Schade - 7.33

Kevin Schade, level with Gakpo's rating, takes 18th spot purely because he has started each of Brentford's five games. With an average rating of 7.33, Schade has scored three times for Brentford so far. He was signed from Freiburg for just £20 million, and could be worth triple that by the end of the season.

Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo is next on the list, beating Schade and Gakpo by 0.01 in rating. Starting in each of Man City's opening five games, he has as many goal involvements. He has scored twice so far this season, whilst providing three assists for Maresca's side.

Anton Stach is level with Semenyo for this spot, and he ranks higher on WhoScored's list. Stach has scored once so far this season, having featured in each of Leeds' games so far this season. He has also picked up one Man of the Match award. He has been a vital part of Daniel Farke's squad since he joined last summer.
15. Jannik Schuster - 7.35

Brentford central defender Jannik Schuster takes 15th place in this list, with an average rating of 7.35. He joined the Bees during the summer from RB Salzburg and has already cemented himself as a starter in Keith Andrews' squad.
He has provided one assist so far, but has only made two starts this season, coming off the bench once.

A key player for Maresca so far, Gvardiol has played 435 minutes so far this season, scoring once and assisting twice in five starts. Despite being a defender, his role allows him to push further up the pitch, which is why he already has three goal involvements as a defender.

Morgan Rogers is next up on the list, as he has enjoyed a fine start to his Chelsea career since joining the Blues from Aston Villa during the summer in a move worth over £110 million. Rogers scored in his opening game before adding another two goals and assisting once. He has already formed a good duo with Cole Palmer in the Chelsea attack.

Maxim De Cuyper joined Brighton last summer, as another one of their scouting department's acute purchases. After making a strong start last season, he has continued into this season, scoring once and assisting twice in his five starts this season. He isn't the only player in the Brighton squad to feature on this list, as the Seagulls enjoy a brilliant start under Fabian Hurzeler.
11. Bruno Fernandes - 7.39

After his record-breaking season last year, Bruno Fernandes has shown no signs of letting up so far this campaign.
Assisting 21 times last season, the Portuguese midfielder has scored three times this season, as well as assisting once. United will need to rely on him once again if they want to have a successful Premier League season.

We break into the top 10 now, and Newcastle United's Lewis Hall earns himself a spot on the list. The former Chelsea player has impressed during his time on Tyneside, and his form has continued.
He's assisted once and scored once this season, as well as picking up a Man of the Match award. He was linked with Manchester United in the summer, and Newcastle could be facing a tough battle next transfer window to keep hold of their left-back.

After an injury-ridden season last year, Bukayo Saka has returned to his usual self this season, as he aims to help Arsenal defend their status as Premier League champions.
In 419 minutes, he has scored three goals for the Gunners, whilst being named Man of the Match once. His return to top form will be a huge boost for Mikel Arteta's side.

Muharemovic has been a fine addition to Daniel Farke's Leeds squad, joining in the Summer. The defender has been a rock at the back, picking up a Man of the Match award, whilst also assisting once so far. It cost £35 million to bring the defender to Elland Road from Sassuolo, and he is certainly living up to the price tag so far.

Another Hull City player, Mohamed Belloumi, has exceeded all expectations this season, being a key player to the Tigers' strong start. Belloumi has scored twice this season, both against Chelsea, whilst also assisting twice. He has also received one man of the match award in his five starts. Not bad for a player in a squad that everyone predicted to be relegated this season.

Vitaly Janelt has been a key player for Brentford for numerous years, and that hasn't been any different in the opening five games of the season. The German has played every minute in the league so far, scoring twice whilst also being named man of the match once. He represents a prime example of Brentford's superb recruitment.

It was only a matter of time before he showed up on this list. Haaland is unsurprisingly the top goalscorer in the top flight this season, scoring five goals. Despite his goals, the other areas of the game drag down his average rating, which is why he only gets number five in this list.

Two Manchester City players in a row, the Frenchman takes the fourth spot. Cherki has started four times this season, whilst coming off the bench once. Although he has only played 305 minutes so far, he has still managed to score three times and assist twice, picking up one Man of the Match award along the way.

A surprise name gets a spot inside the top three. Tarkowski has played every minute so far this season and has scored once and assisted once so far. He has also been named man of the match once, considerably bumping up his average rating. The Toffees have kept three clean sheets this season, as Tarkowski remains a mainstay in David Moyes' side.

Joao Pedro has been a key part of Xabi Alonso's start to life as Chelsea manager, with the Brazilian starting four times. Playing just 360 minutes so far, Pedro has scored three goals and assisted three times already, being named man of the match twice. His relationship with Palmer and Rogers has been a revelation at Stamford Bridge. However, he is only just beaten to the number one spot.

A surprise winner to some, Pascal Gross is an unexpected name to see in the number one spot, but is a fair winner when you see his form so far. Playing every minute so far this season, the German has assisted three times and scored three goals, playing a key part in Fabian Hurzeler's side's strong start. Even at the age of 35, the German continues to pull the strings at the Amex Stadium.
