MANCHESTER - Manchester City maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with a thrilling 5-3 victory over Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, with Antoine Semenyo scoring twice and Erling Haaland sealing the points late on.
The result kept City three points clear at the top of the table and extended their winning run to seven matches in all competitions. City took the lead in the ninth minute when Enzo Fernandez curled a superb free-kick into the net for his first goal since his £125 million move from Chelsea.

Sunderland responded almost immediately, with Brian Brobbey converting an Enzo Le Fee pass to level the score. Rayan Cherki restored City’s advantage in the 29th minute, only for Brobbey to equalise again from close range. Semenyo then restored City’s lead before half-time and doubled the advantage in the 57th minute with a powerful finish after Sunderland failed to clear their lines.
Brobbey completed his hat-trick by turning home Nilson Angulo’s effort, becoming the first Sunderland player since Jermaine Defoe in 2016 to score three goals in a Premier League match. Sunderland threatened a third equaliser, but Haaland finally settled the contest with a late goal. The Norwegian has now scored against all 25 Premier League clubs he has faced. Elsewhere, Liverpool defeated Bournemouth 1-0 through Alexander Isak’s second-half goal, while Leeds United remained unbeaten after a goalless draw with Crystal Palace.
