KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Sunday night football at Arrowhead turned into an overtime thriller between the Indianapolis Colts and the Kansas City Chiefs.
After a back-and-forth battle the score was tied at 27 at the end of regulation.
Tyquan Thornton stepped up for a critical 30-yard grab during overtime. Travis Kelce then clutched the first down to keep the ball moving toward the end zone.
Patrick Mahomes didn’t just rely on his arm to wrap up a win. He also scrambled to a first down on the overtime drive. In the end the effort wasn’t enough and the Chiefs had to settle for a field goal and just three points.
The Chiefs handed the ball back to the Colts and Indianapolis knew exactly what was needed to secure the win.
On the next play Colts wide receiver Laquon Treadwell tried to make a little something extra happen, but nearly fumbled the ball. He was ruled down by contact and the Colts kept possession. A field goal tied it at 30.
The Chiefs offense returned to the field for the final time of the night. Harrison Butker eventually kicked it through the uprights for a field goal and a Chiefs win.
Mahomes finished with 382 yards passing and three touchdowns, Walker ran for 117 yards, and Travis Kelce looked like a younger version of himself with nine catches for 101 yards and a score as the Chiefs improved to 2-0.
Daniel Jones had 210 yards passing with a touchdown and a pick for the Colts. Jonathan Taylor had 92 yards rushing and two TDs.
The September 20 game is the first matchup between the Chiefs and Colts since Nov. 23, 2025, when Kansas City rallied from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to win 23-20 in overtime. Indianapolis has lost eight consecutive games, dating back to that Week 12 matchup between the Chiefs and Colts last season.
