As the international break provides a brief respite from domestic fixtures, Andoni Iraola's next challenge comes in the form of a mid-October encounter with Manchester City. The three-week interval gives the Liverpool manager an opportunity to assess a frenetic opening to the season.

He's observed multiple new arrivals settling into life on Merseyside - amongst them Victor Munoz, who has adapted to the English game remarkably well during his maiden campaign at Anfield.

The Spanish midfielder has been candid about the most significant surprises he's experienced following his £34.5million transfer, while Alexis Mac Allister has attracted interest after being sent a public message from a former Reds hero.

Munoz speaks out

Victor Munoz has enjoyed a strong beginning to his Liverpool stint. As he continues to acclimatise to life in unfamiliar surroundings, the Spain international has admitted that the physical intensity of the Premier League has caught him somewhat off guard, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Discussing the difference in pace and physicality between the Premier League and La Liga, Munoz told Spanish publication AS: "The level of play in England is extremely high. Every match is different and any opponent can seriously hurt you. Games are decided by the smallest details and winning isn't easy.

"We're on an upward trajectory, trying to follow the manager's plan and it's just a matter of time before we take off. But what has surprised me most, by far, is the physical level of all the teams. In Spain, the game is more positional and tactical, whilst here it's constant back-and-forth. The matches are much crazier and all the teams have very physically powerful players."

Mac Allister contract claim

Emile Heskey has urged Alexis Mac Allister to allow his performances to speak for themselves if he wishes to secure a new deal at Liverpool. The Argentine publicly voiced his discontent earlier this month upon being passed over for fresh terms, while midfield teammates Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai have recently signed on the dotted line.

The 27 year old has backed up his words with a series of standout displays against Atlético Madrid and Tottenham. Heskey — who donned the red shirt between 2000 and 2004 — insisted that Mac Allister must prove his value on the pitch to secure his long-term future at Anfield.

"Alexis Mac Allister has had to step up on the pitch because it wasn't great before that," the former England frontman told PariuriX. "You can talk, but you've got to put some action in play as well. He's a fantastically talented player, we've seen it, but we didn't get to see it last season at Liverpool.

"We saw it at the World Cup but for Liverpool we didn't see it last season, so instead of him complaining about a new contract, go and show you deserve it through performances and the contract will come."

"That will come because when you start putting up numbers and unfortunately it's a numbers game now, Liverpool will be forced to look around and say no one can compete with these numbers.

"They will look around and say no one else who's younger is giving me that so let's give another year or let's give another two years or whatever it may be that he wanted. You can complain but you've gotta go and do it as well."
