Highlights & Reaction as Liverpool beat Bournemouth
Former AFC Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola returned to Dean Court on Sunday in his new role as head coach of Liverpool. A job he was handed by former AFC Bournemouth director Richard Hughes, who at the time was technical director at Liverpool.
Iraola was joined in the away dugout by former AFC Bournemouth captain and coach Tommy Elphick and former defender and coach Shaun Cooper.
Former Cherries fitness coach Pablo de la Torre joined them in Liverpool colours.
Any reunion was left until the full-time whistle, as both sides were desperate for the points. AFC Bournemouth dominated the opening stages of the game without creating any clear cut changes and that was pretty much the game reviewed.
The Cherries played well in stages; they didn’t look like they would be overwhelmed by the quality on show in the Liverpool side, but also didn’t look like finding an answer to unpick the lock on the Liverpool defence.
In the end, a defensive lapse from the home side decided the game.
A brief round of Iraola’s chant ran out from a section of the north stand as Iraola gave a tentative wave back before heading immediately down the tunnel.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, AFC Bournemouth head coach Marco Rose said…
“We couldn’t see that one team deserved to win. We played really good in the first 25 minutes and then it got more open.
“We had to work really hard to get chances but we conceded an easy goal.
“In both boxes, you had to be ready and be present. In the end, they scored the goal with one situation and we put a lot of effort into creating chances.
“We panicked a little bit in tight situations. We were fit and I thought we could bring more energy into the game.
“It is disappointing. It was an opportunity to win, right now we have three points from five games and it is disappointing,
“I think we missed details.”

Bit of a flat performance overall. Lots of poor passes, with Tavs probably at the top of the list. I think we missed Kluivert’s energy in the press. Just seemed one of those games you feel we could have played until midnight but not score. Disappointing, of course, but time for those not on international duty to recharge batteries and work on tactics. Easy game at Stamford Bridge next.

Didn’t really test them; I can only remember one tame effort on target.
Poor performance overall, a post-Europe performance if I ever saw one.
CBs did well though.
Truffert hasn’t been at his best in the last 2 games.
Rose makes his subs far too late to have an impact.
I think we lack quality in depth should’ve signed more players in the summer.
Brooks looks finished at this level.
Oliver was useless as usual
Hopefully this 3-week break will be the rest they need because players need to find that first win after the international break.

We missed Kluivert today, who was coming back to the form we know him for: two goals in his last two games.
Thought Ryan Christie had a good game today.
But overall we lack ‘punch’ up front.
Evanilson went close, but Alisson made a last-ditch save to put the ball out for a corner.
Two shots on target today against their 3.
They also had 12 shots, 3 more than our side.
Disappointing this afternoon, but not forgetting our lads had a game on Thursday in Spain and Liverpool had 2 more days’ rest.

Had our moments, and thought we got slightly the better of the midfield battle. But our crossing was absolutely dreadful, even if Liverpool defended really well today.
Was saying last week that Rose’s subs had been odd, and I thought this was the case today, even if we have had our injuries.
This is a hot take, but I don’t think we looked particularly tired today, especially after a bruising game on Thursday.
I’m worried about our survival chances considering how well the newly promoted teams have started. It looks as if our focus is on Europe this season.

Can we talk about Rayan? Why is he failing the “gets fans on the edge of their seats” test? There is no excitement when he has the ball at his feet. Is he told to play safely? It doesn’t feel like there is a threat there. I know I’ll get pointed to the header on Thursday, but he doesn’t seem to scare defenders. There are no runs or take-ons.
Very good in the air though..

We missed Kluivert, but Christie added something to the performance. A draw would have been a fair result, but their goal was first-class. Usual scenario: lack of depth is an ongoing problem; the core of the team has a long season ahead of them. I thought Hill was imperious; someone else to leave for a big fee in time.

Poor second half. I felt that if we played until next Sunday, we wouldn’t score.
Liverpool are a poor team at the moment; we should have got a draw if we had better players to bring on, but I guess Rose doesn’t think Doak or Toth deserve more minutes than the six (!) they had.
Shame about David Brooks, just not happening for him these days.
Jebbison appears to be a Championship-level player. There were times that I wished we’d kept Unal today.
Is Rodriguez injured? He played for 20 minutes on Thursday. If he’s fit, surely better than Jebbo? – To join the conversation, please click here.
